Ayala Expands Hospital Chain

QualiMed Health Network plans to open “one to two hospitals” and “three to four” clinics in a year as it maps the growth of its healthcare network of 10 hospitals and 10 clinics in the next five years.

QualiMed, a joint venture between Ayala Land, Inc. and Mercado General Hospital, Inc. (MGHI), eyes to open a 100-bed hospital in Makati, Cavite, Bacolod, Cebu and Davao to have eight or nine in five years, spending an average of P400 million to P430 million on each hospital site.

These will complement the previously announced QualiMedBalintawak, Arca South in Taguig and Nuvali in Sta. Rosa.

The company currently owns three hospitals: the recently-opened 105-bed hospital in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan; 100-bed QualiMed Iloilo; and MGHI’s flagship hospital Daniel O. Mercado Medical Center in Tanauan City, Batangas.

QualiMed opened the San Jose del Monte facility on Monday. The 100-bed QualiMed Hospital Nuvali is set to open by first quarter next year.

The company currently has five clinics located in Makati, TriNoma, UP Town Center, Manila and Fairview Terraces, with latter two branded as QualiMed Surgery Centers.

The QualiMed Clinics in Cebu IT Park, Cebu City and Bonifacio Global City, Taguigwill open by the third quarter of this year. Each clinic is estimated to cost P20 million to P30 million per site.

QualiMed clinics handle primary cases and have services for family medicine, internal medicine, OB-gyne, opthalmology, ENT, pediatrics and clinical surgery procedures or those with no risk of massive bleeding.

QualiMed Hospital-San Jose Del Monte is the company’s first hospital in Luzon. It is located at Altaraza Town Center, a 9-hectare mixed-use development by Ayala Land.

“We are in the middle of Phase 1 which will be undertaken in the next two years. We have launched 564 units under our residential brands Avida and Amaia. Most of the buyers are primary users coming from Bulacan, Quezon City and Caloocan,” said Charlotte Cailao, Altaraza project development manager.

“We are also set to develop a 9,600-sqm GLA office building which can generate about 3,500 jobs upon completion. Along with these development plans, we believe the opening of QualiMed Hospital-San Jose Del Monte will further boost the continued growth of our community,” added Cailao.

Alfonso Javier Reyes, head of ALI Capital Corp., a unit of Ayala Land, said QualiMed Hospital supports the comprehensive and sustainable lifestyle offerings in the Altaraza estate and will also benefit the surrounding community.

Qualimed aims to put up a network of clinics and 100- to 150-bed hospitals around the country to provide healthcare that is 10 percent cheaper than the prevailing charges of a clinic, and 30 to 40 percent less than what a premier hospital charges.

QualiMed will primarily have its presence in all Ayala Land mixed-used development, filling in the need for a medical establishment in each area.

It is also in the middle of establishing its “quaternary hospitals” in Ayala Land’s Cloverleaf project in Balintawak, eyed to open by the last quarter of 2017, and Arca South, the former FTI complex, in Taguig, set for opening by 2018, which will be more specialized than the hospitals like Qualimed Hospital-San Jose del Monte.
